iMovie and Garage Band Movie Trailer Project
Change the mood of a movie trailer by changing the music.

For this project, you will create your own movie trailer score using your knowledge of GarageBand and iMovie. The purpose of this assignment is to change the mood of a movie clip by altering the accompanying sound. i.e. change a horror film into a comedy. YOU will create the sound on Garage Band to accompany the clip. Use your previous knowledge of GarageBand to help you on this project.

Take a movie trailer or movie clip from YouTube and do the following:
  • Download the movie off of YouTube and import into iMovie
  • iMovie will accept MP4 files. Do not convert your videos to any other file
  • Video clips must be appropriate for school use
  • The trailer or movie clip you choose must be at least 2 minutes
  • Use GarageBand to create an accompanying score
  • The score must change the original mood of the movie (i.e. scary to comical)
  • The GarageBand score you create must be the length of the movie clip
  • After your song has been completed in Garageband you will open it in iMovie. Once in iMovie, you can superimpose the song onto the movie clip. If you are using a clip that already has audio in it, make sure you adjust your levels so the sound doesn’t distract from the song. At this point, you may want to cut out various parts of the movie trailer/clip to line up the music with the video (dramatic sounds at action points).
  • With your trailer in iMovie, you can alter it using: Transitions, Additional words/sentence, Clip adjustments, Video adjustments

Garageband Criteria
  • Length: 2:00-3:00 minutes in length. Longer is OK
  • A clear introduction, middle and conclusion
  • Multiple instruments and sounds being used
  • Fade in and fade out
